MAR DHEA
We are a collection of musicians hailing from Dublin, Wexford, Kildare, Wicklow, Sligo, and Vancouver, Canada!
What started off as a few sessions in kitchens and classrooms has led to performances at cultural events for Conradh na Gaeilge and festivals like Kaleidoscope and Electric Picnic.
Our performances aim to encapsulate the energy and joy of Irish traditional music with an emphasis on spraoi with our audiences. Our performances are not all about trad though - you might hear some Amy Winehouse or Bob Dylan sprinkled throughout some of our sessions!
This music is not only ours to perform but the audience’s to enjoy and partake in, be that through singing along or dance.
Although a performance of a selection of tunes (jigs/reels/polkas etc) are primarily our focus, we enjoy getting the crowd involved.
Our audience will learn a little about Irish dancing and get the chance to partake in a céilí, learn about the different styles of tunes in Irish music and hear a couple of stories from our country and beyond. The performance will be mostly tunes with songs and dances dotted throughout in order to maintain a relaxed atmosphere in the crowd while also allowing for engagement. What we want most of all from our performance is for our audience to experience an escape into the wonderful world of Irish culture, feel themselves becoming a part of its story; to see, hear and experience its beauty and the joy it brings.
